and Sharon met through a mutual love of sewing and all things creative after
having respective careers in nursing and banking. After working together
for 2 years, their passion led to the desire to share their skills with a dream
to open their own sewing shop, a dream they’ve both had since they were very young.
And so ‘The
Sewing Shoppe’ was born.
has been collecting eclectic fabrics and other sewing collectables over the
last 25 years and now has a chance to create a visually inspiring creative
space. Sonia has a passion for all things sewing and with a conscience for the
environment she loves to reuse and recycle discarded wool suits and denims to
make upcycled bags.
up her first needle learning to hand embroider at the age of 8. Taking lessons in dressmaking from her Mum,
Sharon started making her own clothes while studying textiles in high school. While designing and making
clothes for her children, and now grandchildren, Sharon continued a career in
finance, and now uses this background to complete the package within this new partnership with Sonia.
and Sharon believe that sewing is one of the best life skills a person can
have, improving hand eye coordination, keeping your brain active and reducing
stress and anxiety. The Sewing Shoppe aims to inspire people by offering
diverse patchwork and dressmaking fabric and courses to create that something
special for yourself or others.
